A comparatively simple and economical scheme for the improvement of a hole is illustrated by the rough sketch.  It shows the development of a section of the fourteenth at Shawnee, one which was previously never bunkered until now.  The hole measures 400 yards from the back teeing ground.  The long hitters got home in two, but those who were conservative played short of the Alps and found themselves with an easy approach to a large, wide open green.   Having planned the course originally, a working model for the redevelopment of the hole was prepared and the work will be finished shortly.  A large section of fairway in front of the Alps has been converted to rough in which two pits have been placed. The approach to the green is not open and has to carry another area of rough and hazard beyond.
