Course Examinations and Proposals

Throughout his career, A.W. Tillinghast made numerous examinations and detailed reports.  Often these were an entrée for golf course design services. The growth in the game lead to competition for various projects and with it some proposals were never adopted.

Listed below is a known listing of courses which Tillinghast provided examinations or made proposals.  It was compiled from a variety of sources.

In the mid 1930’s, Tillinghast was retained by the PGA of America to provide examinations  and report services free of charge to golf clubs and courses which employed a member professional of the PGA of America.  Over a two-year and half years, Tillinghast traveled across the United States and examined hundreds of golf courses. This list does not include those courses. A chronological listing of those courses examined for the PGA of America can be found by clicking here.

Below are two columns. The first is known club inspections. The second are clubs he made proposal for but were not built.  We look forward to uncovering information on other clubs he may of have visited or made proposals to add to these lists
