The sketch shows, foreshortened for illustrating, a bird's-eye view of a hole measuring, let us say, about one hundred and eighty yards from the center of the dark colored parallelogram, which nearly represents the mathematically precise, solitary tee of other days, and which precluded any choice at all.  In recent years, the driving areas have been increased in size and sometimes number.  The sketch shows one extending the entire width of the hole with an extension of a hundred feet along the line of play.  Why not?
