Friendly Sand Traps in a Long Steep Slope

Let your attention be called to my sketch.  It represents a green, surrounded by rapidly falling grades sloping to remote lies, which obviously would be quite desperate.  The drawing shows but the long outside slope on the left of the green.  Let it be assumed that the right side is equally severe and that any ball overrunning the green would maliciously go falling down a miniature ravine or perhaps a really poisonous one, and that similar traps are introduced into these slopes too.   Such traps as my sketch shows are what I choose to call the friendly ones for they prevent wayward balls from going into trouble, which would far worse.  The wretched player who is trapped may regard the trap as an enemy but, in this case, might he not regard one as a friendly enemy?
